The Solaris Servers are facing backwards because there was no space in the
back of that shelf for any cabling work to be done. Things were
functional, but not pretty to look at.

Long, Long Time Ago ... |
Once upon a time, our computer center had many, many cables threading through a couple of network equipment racks, and many computers all stacked on regular desk with some shelves and a computer table with shelves. |
Then we tried to clean things up a little |
We got some used racks and stacked Sun servers in there. They look nicer don't they? And if you are observative, you can see that the spaghetti cables disappeared on the network racks, also. |
We had to go all the way |
We bought 2 more network racks and had them installed by FD&O. As we re-organized all the cables and servers, we now have space all around the server (front & back) to work on them quite easily. This the same two network racks you saw above providing the same functionality. We took out some old networking equipments and replaced with new Cisco switches as a part of the campus-wide replacement program initiated by CSU. Not only this will provide a better networking features, it cleaned up our network racks in a hurry also. |
Bottom Line |
Now, our computer center looks like an official computer center. Doesn't it? |
